Meet the Boges

Hi and welcome to our site.  I am Kelly and I have been married to Rick for 17 years.  We have 5 children:  Colleen, Maddy, Chris, Sam and Joe.  We run the only fresh dairy in DuPage County, Illinois, and take care of 13 Guernsey cows.  It’s a lot of work but we wouldn’t have it any other way! 

Rick grew up in Michigan and worked on his family farm into his 30s.  City-life was never in his blood and even though I grew up in Chicago, I was quickly converted to the country life.  When Rick and I married, we both coached gymnastics and owned our own business, which caused us to travel around the country.  However, we always found a home big enough to have our own dairy cow.

In 2006, we moved to Wisconsin to farm on a full-time basis and ended up with a 150 Jersey cow herd.  Unfortunately, we found that many things had changed in the farming industry and not for the good.  Monsanto was pushing farmers to use the rBST hormones and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) were beginning to pop up.  This was against everything we, as a family, believed in, so we gave up our herd and moved back to the Chicagoland area.

We wanted to share our milk with our community, so we moved onto a small farm that allowed us to continue raising cows.  We ultimately found that people want to get back to the grassroots of eating good, nutritious foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. 

This time around we chose the Guernsey cow.  After much research, we found that the milk from a Guernsey has the A2 protein, is higher in vitamins A and D, and has a higher percentage of butterfat.
